Navigating Hormones & Supplements: What’s Been Working for Me
The supplements and hormones that are helping me feel like myself again
Hi everyone!
This week, I’m getting a bit personal and sharing something I’ve been navigating recently—my supplement and hormone routine. Wellness is something I’m really passionate about, and as we get older, I think it’s so important to take a balanced approach to health. Recently, I’ve made a few changes to my routine, including starting hormone replacement therapy, and I thought it might be helpful to share what’s been working for me so far.
For a long time, I was on the fence about starting hormone replacement. I had so many questions and, let’s be real, fears—worries about side effects and what it might mean for my body.
Around 8 months ago, my gynecologist prescribed hormones and estrogen. I was ready to start, but honestly, I got scared. The prescription sat on my desk for months, and I would stare at it every day, unsure.
Then, everything changed. I watched an Oprah special on Apple TV all about menopause, featuring amazing women like Naomi Watts, Halle Berry, and hormone specialist Dr. Mary Claire. Something clicked for me when I heard their stories. Everything they said about the changes in our bodies, the struggles with focus, weight gain, and energy—it all felt so familiar. I immediately got up, grabbed my patch and estrogen pills, and told my husband, “I’m starting today.” That was three weeks ago, and while I’ve been told it can take 4-6 weeks to feel a difference, I already feel so much better.
Let me take you through some of the changes I’ve experienced. When I hit 50, I started noticing some shifts—like gaining 10-15 pounds in a year. I thought it was just from the pandemic, but looking back, I realize it was more about my body changing and me not fully understanding what was happening. Another shift was my inability to focus. I started feeling distracted all the time, and it just kept getting worse. Hearing these women share similar experiences was the final push I needed to make a change and take control of how I was feeling.
